#Mobile World Congress 2010 Barcelona – Wrap Up

Back from Barcelona, here are some of the most outstanding facts/trends to share:

major event: the announcement of Windows Phone Series 7: the interface seems (almost?) as user-friendly as the i-Phone’s, all Windows services are integrated and interacting dynamically: Office documents, games (x-box), Bing, geolocalisation with localised services with hyper-links, social networks, automatical synchronisation via wi-fi (photos), etc…
the winner: Android. It’s already available on many platforms, HTC, Motorola, Sony-Ericsson, with a user-interface that has nothing to envy to the i-Phone.
The OS war: Samsung’s Bada, Windows Phone and Android are seriously catching up Apple.
The agreement between 15 carriers to create a common app platform will (aims at) isolate Apple

The smartphone is becoming the “standard”

the fragmentation goes on. For Sosoftware this means that we still have to develop on several OS
The number of companies developing applications for mobile phones has pretty much increased. As an example, about 80% of BlackBerry’s booth was represented by applications companies. Many value propositions of companies gravitating around mobile solutions.

the notable absence of Apple and Nokia, who didn’t announce anything (new!).

For Sosoftware, the result is very positive, in terms of new developments projects, be they as new services addition, as new strong commercial partnerships to develop new markets or as development resources.

In a more general way, the context of Barcelona is so gorgeous, that it makes the experience worth the travel. Some tapas at night, some fresh “zumo de naranjas” in the morning, and life is beautiful!

After a thorough worldwide analysis of software mobile solutions, Avaya has retained Solo Client DTMF supporting Symbian and BlackBerry devices compatible with its Avaya One-X Mobile (IP Office and EC 500 Communication Manager). Solo for i-Phone, Android and Windows Mobile are planned for the upcoming months.

Solo is compliant with new Nokia models, such as Nokia E72, Nokia N 97, for example (and many others, new and older), as well as new BlackBerry models, and others that are no longer supported by Avaya.

@sosoftware’s board gathered in Santhià, half the way between Italians and Swiss homes :-) (surrounded by a golf course, but we’ll play next time :-))

Here are some snapshots of “work in progress”.

10 hours in a row (by far not enough!) to define @sosoftware’s strategy ’s main lines for 2010, within a long-term vision.

The mobility solution has been adapted to best fit market needs, which are, for the moment: cut mobile/roaming costs in the easiest way and at the lowest costs (= without having to change the existing infrastructure). Data channel with added-value services will be included, but as a “nice to have”, according to what comes up from the market.

This change implies strategic challenges in terms of development and distribution., 2 themes that have been talked about a lot during the day. The impact on revenue will be important too and should definitely help growth.

@sosoftware is facing alslo a new immediate market opportunity, which required to define and adjust actions to be taken: as of February, Avaya One-X (IP Office) won’t support new models of mobile devices any more. But solo’s software (client) is 100% compliant for new models (Symbian, BB, …) for Avaya IP Office. This is more about a communication challenge!

Luciano Benassi has been interviewed during Telecom 09, about the main benefits that ITU Telecom 09 was bringing to Sosoftware and how AlpICT has helped Sosoftware.

Main benefits are: having the opportunity to do live demos of Solo (the easiest way to understand its benefits), to gain big visibility and to invite leads and customers in a place with a great aura, thus harvesting indirectly this aura, too.

Luciano is also thankful to AlpICT for its great help, and without whom Sosoftware would not have been present at Telecom.

Telecom World 2009: a success for SoSoftware

SoSoftware was present the whole week at Telecom World 2009, as already mentioned here and here.

The investment in time, ressources was intensive, but worth the results, which outstanded the most optimistic expectations.

A kind of a magical mix operated during the week, made out of: great people on the AlpICT area, in our team (no less than 10 people, from Italy and Switzerland, on the conference’s day), connections, the best of mixed-networks in action, the interest of big international groups leading to the interest of others, Telecom giving legitimacy to our Solution, the emphasize on the “Costs Reduction” aspect at the right time were among the main success factors.

Translated into figures, this gives:

7000 – 20′000 Solo

40 new customers, from which big international organizations

More than 20 new partnerships

Europe

20-30 new leads

10 technological partnerships

20-30 new prespcriptors

Hundreds of questions
